CARE

Care- We CARE for the people, places and things

We believe in providing a basic-to-basics environment for our tamariki. Through our animals, organic vegetable gardens/fruit trees, grass and natural materials our tamariki learn respect, responsibility and empathy for nature. Tamariki can experience themselves, explore the world, learn and grow. The tamariki are actively involved in all our routines and rituals to help care for our “backyard”.

We believe we are the kaitiakitanga, guardians and protectors of the land. As a centre we try to make sustainable choices and educate our tamariki and whanau on the importance of caring for our environment.

CONNECT

Connect- We believe positive CONNECTIONS are at the heart of everything

The Learning Barn provides a nurturing and respectful environment that allows tamariki to build connections with others. Our team members model positive interactions for children to follow. When the tamariki feel comfortable, appreciated and safe, then they are ready to engage in quality play, which results in quality learning.

We create healthy relationships by displaying manaakitanga with tamariki and their whānau. Through these connections we are able to understand different cultures, personalities and celebrate each child as an individual. Tamariki are at the heart of every decision we make.

Our team believes it is necessary that children have a healthy sense of belonging to who they are so they can grow into valued members of our society.

CREATE

Create - We embrace CREATIVITY

The Learning Barn provides children with opportunities to take risks, explore, self-direct and constantly challenge themselves through play. This allows children to deepen their understanding of the world. We foster children’s creativity and imagination. Our staff work alongside each child to support their individual strengths and interests.

At The Learning Barn we believe outdoor play is fundamentally important for the hauora (physical, mental, social and spiritual) of tamariki. Our tamariki are free to play outside in all weather as long as they are suitably dressed.

Our team provides cross curriculum opportunities on a daily basis which are guided from the NZECC Te Whariki.
